ECO-LILLY, ENVIRONMENTAL NEWS FOR KIDS

EcoLilly is a organization dedicated to teaching children about global warming, carbon footprint, and ways to battle the negative effects they have on the environment. The future of our children depends on making radical changes to the way we treat our planet, and there's no better way to ensure that continues than to teach our children right from the start. Our children need to be educated on how their daily actions effect our planet.

Many parents are new to the whole Green Lifestyle ethos, so we figured we provide a few tips on teaching your children about the environment so they'll know more about it than we do at our age. Children learn by imitation, so practice what you preach and you'll have better results!

TIPS FOR TEACHING CHILDREN ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT

1. Teach them to recycle right from the start. If you don’t have a recycling system set up, let the children help you with selecting and labeling boxes. There are some gorgeous designs out there including segregated stainless steel contraptions, but really you need nothing more than a few empty boxes and some space to store them.

2. Start a garden with your children. Its a great way to show them that growing your own food is fun and easy, plus its something you can do together as a family.

3. The simple act of turning off the tap while they are brushing their teeth can save 5 liters of water per minute. Teach your children to conserve water instead of wasting it. Show them that water is a precious commodity and show never be taken for granted. Install a low flow shower head as a family project and explain the benefits. In other words, throw "slip n slide" away next spring.

4. Teach children to conserve energy. Take them around your home and explain that lights that aren't being used should always be turned off. Also teach them to unplug appliances when not in use to eliminate phantom load, and to use low energy CFL light bulbs.

5. Give your children environmentally friendly cleaning supplies for their chores. Explain the difference between toxic cleaners and green cleaners. The same goes for the laundry supplies.

6. Eating local organic food is one of the biggest changes you can make. Teach your children to eat green right from the start. They'll be healthier and smarter.

7. Kids always wants a new bike right? Well buy them one... and buy one for yourself. Show your kids how riding a bike instead of driving a car reduces CO2 emissions and can help fight global warming.

8. The BEST tip of all... Children learn by imitation, so practice what you preach and you'll have better results!
